This specimen was lot 10037 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €408 (about US$425). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Penning, ND (1523-1533). Frederik I. NGC EF-45. This bracteate, which is also known as a 'Blaffert', was presumabl[y] struck in Ribe of Copenhagen. This example has 32 rays, a number unknown to Schou. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling or 144 hvide or 576 penning. If this coin actually is a blaffert, then one blaffert was two penning. The specie daler would not appear until later.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.46 g, 0.250 fine silver, 20 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: Galster-79; Sieg-1; Schou-40; Bruun-4101.
