from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10037

This specimen was lot 10037 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €408 (about US$425). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Penning, ND (1523-1533). Frederik I. NGC EF-45. This bracteate, which is also known as a 'Blaffert', was presumabl[y] struck in Ribe of Copenhagen. This example has 32 rays, a number unknown to Schou. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling or 144 hvide or 576 penning. If this coin actually is a blaffert, then one blaffert was two penning. The specie daler would not appear until later.

Specification: 0.46 g, 0.250 fine silver, 20 mm diameter.
