from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10027
SB225-10027r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10027 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €240 (about US$250). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Klippe, ND (1518-1522). Malmö Mint. Christian II. NGC AU-50. Struck as emergency coinage during the war to retake Sweden, this example is both struck on a large flan and has a high silver content. The coinage was struck using Skilling dies much larger than the Klippe flan. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling. The term "klippe" refers to a shape, not a value. The auctioneers don't seem to know what denomination this is and, without the weight, we can't begin to guess.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Galster-42; Sieg-8; Schou-26; Bruun-3945.
