Denmark (1517-25) hvid
This specimen was lot 10040 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €480 (about US$500). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Gotland. Hvid, ND (1517-1525). Visby MInt. Christian II. NGC AU-53. Crescent divides text on obverse. A rare, unlisted variation, this exceptionally well-kept coin was struck by Søren Norby for Christian II during the king's reconque[st] of Sweden. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex. Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). Ex. C. P. Humble Collection (Stockholm, 1852), Lot# 213." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling or 144 hvide. The specie daler would not appear until later.
