This specimen was lot 2229 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 3,200 (about US$4,216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"40 Francs AN 14 (1805). Lille Selten. Sehr schön. (republic of France, Napoleon I, forty francs of the year 14, Lille mint, rare, very fine.)"

While the AN 14-A is fairly common, the AN 14-U and AN 14-W are both very rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 12.90 g, 0.900 fine gold, 26 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier and Jean-Pierre Droz, this specimen 12.82 g.
