This specimen was lot 75299 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1859-EM. Ekaterinburg Mint. Alexander II. NGC MS-62 Brown. Startlingly dapper, this entrancing piece is rich with uncirculated details and a lovely color." This type was struck 1850-59 at Ekaterinburg and Warsaw and is common in circulated condition. The type was slightly modified in 1859 and the subsequent design (Y4a.1) was also struck in that year. In 1867, the weight was reduced to 6.56 g.
Recorded mintage: 14,772,000 including KM Y4a.1.
Specification: 10.24 g, copper, 18.15 mm diameter.
