This specimen was lot 1242 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "BIAFRA: Republic, 6 pence, 1969, a very rare type with only a few reported sales and this is a wonderful lustrous example! PCGS graded MS64, RR." Biafra herself lasted as a nation for just under three years, as independence was declared from Nigeria in 1967, only to have the uprising quelled in early 1970. The suppression of the Biafran revolt was carried out with the maximum destruction of property and life.
Recorded mintage: unknown; the SCWC states 5-10 pieces known.
Specification: aluminum.
Catalog reference: KM-12.
