This specimen was lot 52044 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,050. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BIAFRA. 5 Pounds, 1969. PCGS PROOF-66 Deep Cameo. Commemorating the second anniversary of independence. Quite captivating the resounding, this Superb Gem specimen yields stunning contrast between its highly mirrored fields and frosted devices." The suppression of the Biafran revolt was carried out with the maximum destruction of property and life and the region is today part of Nigeria.
