Biafra 1969 pound

from the Stack's Bowers Collector's June 2022 Choice sale, lot 70323

This specimen was lot 70323 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $312. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BIAFRA. Pound, 1969. PCGS MS-65. Coin alignment. A less commonly seen type, this attractive Gem presents sharp strike and a light luster. A charming piece for the world crown collector." The suppression of the Biafran revolt was carried out with the maximum destruction of property and life and the region is today part of Nigeria.
