from the Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70170

This specimen was lot 70170 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $900. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BIAFRA. 2 Pounds, 1969. NGC PROOF-64 Ultra Cameo. Issued for the 2nd Anniversary of Independence. An attractive Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." The suppression of the Biafran revolt was carried out with the maximum destruction of property and life and the region is today part of Nigeria.
