This specimen was lot 52041 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $4,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "BIAFRA. 25 Pounds, 1969. NGC PROOF-64 Ultra Cameo. A RARE and rather majestic large sized gold issue for the 2nd anniversary of independence, this near-Gem provides a high degree of mirrored brilliance in the fields and some subtle frosting imparted unto the devices." The suppression of the Biafran revolt was carried out with the maximum destruction of property and life and the region is today part of Nigeria.
