Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71074

This specimen was lot 71074 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1888. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-62. 2nd Obverse type. Shimmering and highly radiant, this specimen offers a good deal of lustrous brilliance along with a great rendition of the 'jubilee bust'." This type was struck 1887-92 in considerable numbers and is called the "jubilee head." This date is common.

Recorded mintage: 2,777,000.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
