Great Britain 1888 farthing

Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71087

This specimen was lot 71087 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $432. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1888. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-66 Red. A bright Gem example if this minor issue. Fully lustrous and brilliant, it will find a welcome place in the next collection it enters." This type was introduced in 1860 with a slightly modified obverse used 1874-95. Numerous varieties exist, some rare. The Heaton mint contributed farthings, halfpence and pence in 1874-76 and 1881-82.
