Great Britain 1888 crown
This specimen was lot 33642 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $15,600. The lot description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Victoria Crown 1888 MS65 NGC. Narrow date variety. A stunning Crown from the reign of Queen Victoria, decorated with technicolor toning that is accentuated by vivacious luster that whips at the turn of a wrist. Tied with one other specimen at the peak of the certified population of NGC." This specimen is from a type was struck 1887-92 in some numbers but is rather expensive in nice condition. It is called the "Jubilee" crown as the bust of queen Victoria was introduced in 1887, the fiftieth anniversary of her reign. The type is common but proofs are rare.
