This specimen was lot 1624 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 2600 CHF (about US$3,219 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted,
"GROSSBRITANNIEN Victoria, 1837-1901. Sovereign 1887. 50. Regierungsjubiläum. FDC aus Polierter Platte. (Great Britain, Victoria, 1837-1901, sovereign of 1887, fiftieth anniversary of reign, proof.)"
This type was struck 1887-92 in considerable numbers and is called the "jubilee head." This date is common even if the proofs are not.
Recorded mintage: 1,111,000 plus 797 proofs.
Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW, this specimen 8.04 g.
