Great Britain 1887 6 pence KM-757
This specimen was lot 30810 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $3,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Victoria Proof "Young Head" 6 Pence 1887 PR65 Cameo PCGS. A Proof of Record struck in the year of Victoria's portrait change - this type far, far rarer than that of her Jubilee coinage. It is unusual for these Proofs to exhibit such cameo-level frosting to the devices, nor such brilliance to the fields, the planchet boasting dazzling blue tone. A beautiful gem." The jubilee head sixpence (KM 760) superseded this type mid-year. It was extensively saved and is considerably more available than the young head sixpence of this date.
Recorded mintage: 3,676,000 + proofs (includes jubilee head).
Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, .084 troy oz ASW.
