This type was struck 1850-68 in substantial numbers, tho it is scarce in nice condition. No half gulden coins were struck between 1868 and 1898. Curiously, while the half, one and 2½ gulden pieces were 0.945 fine silver, the five, ten and twenty-five cent issues were only 0.640 fine. This specimen was lot 2984 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"1/2 Gulden 1866. Selteneres Jahr. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of the Netherlands, half gulden of 1866, rare date, extremely fine.)"
Recorded mintage: 1,402,446.
Specification: 5 g, 0.945 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 5.02 g.
