This specimen was lot 50 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $1,547. The catalog description[1] noted, "Seville, Spain, cob 2 escudos, 1629(R), NGC AU 55. Nice full shield and cross with full details, clear 1629 date, bold full denomination and nearly full king's name, traces of luster, hairline edge-split. NGC #5719554-009." This type was struck intermittently at Seville 1621-61 with assayer R noted for 1623-34 and 1643-51. It is noted as the most common two escudos of the seventeenth century. The type is also mentioned for Madrid and Cuenca but those issues are much scarcer. It is hammered.
