Sincona sale 20, lot 2346

This specimen was lot 2346 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Krone 1624. Sehr schön. (very fine.)" Danish crowns of the seventeenth century range from the scarce to the obscenely rare. Either they were melted extensively or the poverty of the king prevented large issues or both. This type of 1624-25 is fairly common. It was struck using half krone dies, hence the 30 mm diameter. It is on the light side to be considered a thaler but we include it as a nod to Davenport. The mintmark is the clover after the date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 18.91 g, 0.859 fine silver, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 18.53 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-3519A, Hede 106A, KM 97.
