This specimen was lot 31299 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 2 Escudos 1801 Mo-FT VF25 NGC, Mexico City mint. A lightly-toned selection with a smoothly-worn portrait of Charles IV and an attractive reverse for the grade. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1791-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial two escudos. This is the first date of the new assayer FT.
