This specimen was lot 30070 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Eye-Appeal and Rarity Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand Harz-gold Ducat 1794-MC, MS62 NGC. An attractive specimen with fully prooflike fields and devices that rise sharply and hold considerable frost. The type, produced over a number of years, is deceptively elusive with our research, yielding only a small handful of examples that have sold since 1999, with none being of the same date as the present. As such, we expect this specimen to receive significant attention, as the combination of eye-appeal and rarity is certainly a compelling one. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." This type is listed for 1784-1800 but is rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 1023, Fr-724.
