This specimen was lot 1633 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $430.70. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, 1 real, 1830JM, encapsulated PCGS MS62, finest known graded by PCGS. Choice strike and good luster, patches of rainbow-toning on obverse, exceptional for the issue." This type was struck 1826-1840 at the Lima mint. The date is listed in the SCWC as a scarce date, though all Peruvian minors are scarcer in nice condition than the catalog values would indicate. Assayer JM is recorded for 1825-1831. It was legal tender in the United States until 1857 for 12½¢.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.903 fine silver, .098 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM-145.1.
