This specimen was lot 1623 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $1,121. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, 8 reales, 1829JM, encapsulated NGC MS 63, tied for finest known graded by NGC. Very richly toned with underlying luster, devoid of any wear and nicely struck, sharing the top of the census with just one other MS 63." This type was struck at Lima 1825-28 and at Cuzco 1826-29 and is rather common; the complete span of Peru standing liberty eight reales runs 1825-55. Assayer JM is recorded for the Lima mint 1825-31.
