Peru 1830/28 1/4 real
This specimen was lot 3094 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$357 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PERU, Republik seit 1822. 1/4 Real 1830 (aus 1828), Lima. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS65. (republic of Peru, since 1822, quarter real of 1830 over 1828, Lima mint. Very rare in this condition, Gem Uncirculated.)"
This type was struck at Lima 1826-56. The date is listed in the SCWC as common; no regular (non overdate) is listed. All Peruvian minors are scarcer in nice condition than the catalog values would indicate; among the quarter reales, only the 1855 is frequently seen. Many overdates are listed.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 0.84 g, 0.903 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 143.1.
