The first specimen was lot 6200 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $230. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Alamos. 8 Reales, 1891-ML. Light toning, sharply struck BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED." The second specimen was lot 20523 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. Alamos. 8 Reales, 1891-AsML. NGC MS-64." The Alamos mint struck eight reales 1864-95. Many of the early dates are rare but this one is common in all grades.

Recorded mintage: 533,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
