Ponterio sale 169, lot 11359

Mexico City struck this type 1869-81 and 1886-97 and is by far the largest producer. Mexico City was the only mint which struck centavos 1892-96. The second specimen was lot 11359 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1,116. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. Centavo, 1891-Mo. NGC Mint Error EF-45 BN. Struck 45% off center." Mint errors from the Republic are very rare.

Specification: 8 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
