This specimen was lot 71444 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Quart de Franc (1/4 Franc), 1807/6-L. Bayonne Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS EF-45. Displaying a very subtle overdate, this original specimen offers some alluring gray toning that deepens around the devices. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from McFadden in 1974 for $67.50). Ex: John J. MacFadden FPL (1/1974) Lot # E35D." This type was struck 1806-07 with eleven different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. It is possible that all of the 1807-L's are the 1807/6 overdate.
Recorded mintage: 7,602[2], a scarce date.
Specification: 1.25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
