This specimen was lot 1567 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it sold for € 90 ($141 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''ALLEMAGNE, République de Weimar, (1919-1933), AR 5 Reichsmark, 1932 D, Très Beau à Superbe.'' ([[Germany]], Weimar republic, 1919-33, silver five mark of 1932. Very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This type, issued 1927-33, was struck in large numbers in Berlin ("A"), Munich ("D", shown here), Muldenhutten ("E"), Stuttgart ("F"), Karlsrule ("G") and Hamburg ([[Germany 1933-J 5 mark|"J"]]). It is, however, expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only .500 fine.

Jean Elsen sale 112, lot 1567
Germany 1932D 5 mark rev JElsen 112-1567.jpg

This specimen was lot 1567 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it sold for € 90 (about US$141 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, République de Weimar, (1919-1933), AR 5 Reichsmark, 1932 D, Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, Weimar republic, 1919-33, silver five mark of 1932. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type, issued 1927-33, was struck in large numbers in Berlin ("A"), Munich ("D", shown here), Muldenhutten ("E"), Stuttgart ("F"), Karlsruhe ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It is, however, expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only 0.500 fine.

Recorded mintage: 8,556,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver, .401 troy oz ASW, 37 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: J., 331; A.K.S., 25, Dav-966, KM 56.
