Sincona sale 63, lot 1627

This specimen was lot 1627 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$627 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Ferdinand I. 1835-1848. Dukat 1843 E, Karlsburg. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleiner Randfehler. (empire of Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, ducat of 1843, Karlsburg mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Minor edge flaw.)"

This type was struck 1837-48 at Vienna ("A"), Kremnitz ("B"), Karlsburg (shown here) and Venice ("V"). The Venice mint issues are rare, the others are all common. This product of the Karlsburg mint in Transylvania is listed by Friedberg under Hungary.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 20 mm diameter, this specimen 3.45 g.
