Sincona sale 90, lot 1629

This specimen was lot 1629 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 7,500 CHF (about US$9,911 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand I. 1835-1848. 4 Dukaten 1843 A, Wien. NGC MS61. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (empire of Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, four ducats of 1843, Vienna mint. Graded NGC MS-61, Extraordinary condition.)"

This type was struck 1835-48. It is expensive tho not rare. Emperor Ferdinand was severely epileptic and considered unfit to rule. He was readily persuaded to abdicate during the revolution of 1848.
