This specimen was lot 1625 in Sincona sale 82 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 34,000 CHF (about US$45,502 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Charles I. 1625-1649. Unite 1646, Oxford. Declaration type. Remodelled bust with smaller head. No mintmark. ''Sehr selten'' (Very rare). NGC AU58. ''Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung'' (Extraordinary condition). From auction Spink 164, London, July 2003, lot 429. From the H. Farquhar Collection, Glendining, London, April 1955, lot 31. Finest certified by NGC." The gold of the early part of Charles's reign comprised of angels (11 shillings), unites (20 shillings), double crowns (ten shillings) and crowns (five shillings). By 1646, Charles no longer controlled the Tower Mint and coins were made there under the authority of Parliament. Charles minted his own unites at Oxford. When milled coinage was introduced in the 1670's, much of the hammered coin was called in and melted.

This specimen was lot 1625 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 34,000 CHF (about US$45,502 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles I. 1625-1649. Unite 1646, Oxford. Declaration type. Remodelled bust with smaller head. No mintmark. Sehr selten (Very rare). NGC AU58. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung (Extraordinary condition). From auction Spink 164, London, July 2003, lot 429. From the H. Farquhar Collection, Glendining, London, April 1955, lot 31. Finest certified by NGC." The gold of the early part of Charles's reign comprised of angels (11 shillings), unites (20 shillings), double crowns (ten shillings) and crowns (five shillings).
