This specimen was lot 52143 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, ND (1646). Hartlebury Castle Mint. Charles I. PCGS VF-30. This pleasing specimen delivers good eye appeal with good details evenly handled across the highest design elements. A charming slate gray appearance percolates across the surfaces, with much eye appeal and charm leaving this piece as a fully presentable representative of the type. From the Lucius S. Ruder Collection." Hartlebury castle is in Worcestershire, England. In 1646, during the Civil War, it was held by the royalists but surrendered to the parliamentarians after a two day siege. The castle was destroyed but rebuilt after the restoration as a palace for the bishop of Worcester. The "HC" mintmark is below the arms on the reverse.
