SB124-52140 rev.jpg

This specimen was lot 52140 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1646. Oxford Mint. Charles I. NGC AU-55. A RARE Shilling issue bearing the instantly recognizable plumed Oxford Mint reverse design. A tad weakly struck on the portrait, but exhibiting very little in the way of true circulation wear; the reverse in particular appears fully lustrous and essentially as struck. The surfaces are wonderfully original throughout and deeply toned, a testament to nearly a century of traceable provenance through the cabinets of various collectors. Ex: H. W. Morrieson Collection (Sotheby - 11/1933) Lot # 622. Ex: E. C. Carter Collection. Ex: Carlyon-Britton Collection. Ex: J. R. Hulett Collection. Ex: J. Tooze Collection."
