Sedwick Treasure Auction 28, lot 7

This specimen was lot 7 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "Seville, Spain, cob 1 escudo, Philip II, 1595 date to right (assayer B to left not visible), NGC MS 61, finest known in NGC census. Bold strike with choice full cross and 100% full date, small thick flan, light luster, the better (by three grades) of just two in the NGC census." This type was struck at Seville 1590-95 and undated. Other mints included Toledo, Valladolid and Granada.
