This specimen was lot 213 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 9,500 € (about US$12,410 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1680/74. Carlos II. Seville. S. 8 escudos. With inescutcheon of Portugal. Very rare. MBC [very fine]." This gold cob was struck at Seville intermittently 1666-99. Confusingly, it is listed in the SCWC as KM 61.2 (1680/78-S M) and KM 168.2. The date is heavily and crudely reworked.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.47 g, 0.917 fine gold, 36 mm diameter, this specimen 26.76 g.
Catalog reference: Cayón-limonite, KM 61.2 or 168.2, AC-1019.1, Cal.Onza missing.
