This specimen was part of lot 44150 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Three more 1840s 1 Reales, all encapsulated by PCGS. Included are 1845-UM. Popayán. EF-45; 1846-RS. Bogotá. VF-30; 1846/4-UM. Popayán. EF Detail, Environmental Damage. (Total: 3 pieces). From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck 1839-41, 1844-46 at Popayan and 1837-46 at Bogotá. An 1846/4 overdate is reported. Nueva Granada was a Centralist Republic created upon the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1830. The region held this name until 1858, when the Granadine Confederation was formed.
