This specimen was lot 2653 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN: Nasir al-Din Shah, 1848-1896, AR 2000 dinars, Tehran, AH1298, lustrous, choice AU." This type is listed for AH 1298-1308 and many dates are common. It was roughly equal to two francs or a florin. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. The largest silver coin was the five krans. With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 9.21 g, 0.900 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-905.
