Heritage sale 3029, lot 30546
Mainz 1641 ducat rev H3029-30546.jpg

This specimen was lot 30546 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mainz. Anselm Casimir Wamboldt von Umstadt gold Ducat 1641, AU58 NGC. A somewhat larger planchet than normal. A little weakness or wear on the T in "MONETA" and the V in "NOVA" but otherwise very struck-up in all aspects of the design. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." Friedberg lists this type for 1636 and 1641 and notes it as fairly common tho not cheap.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 67, Fr-1652.
