Heritage sale 61343, lot 23573
H61343-23573r.jpg

This specimen was lot 23573 in Heritage sale 61343 (Dallas, November 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip III Cob 2 Reales 1599 S-B VF25 NGC, Seville mint. First year of issue. A circulated but yet problem-free offering with clear date, mint, assayer and denomination." Two reales were struck for Philip II and III in 1598-99. The Philip II issue from Seville is KM 17.6. Disentangling the two issues is a challenge as the king's ordinal rarely struck up on cobs.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.86 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 5.75 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón-4574, KM 26.7, Cal-658.
