This specimen was lot 2738 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 25 € (about US$33 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "1783. Carlos III. Lima. MI. 1 real. BC/BC+ [fine or better]." This specimen is one of a series struck 1772-89 during the reign of Charles III (1759-88). As a class, colonial coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. Assayer MI is listed for 1780-87. The fineness was lowered from 0.903 to 0.896 in 1785.
