from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 1691

This specimen was lot 1691 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $400.33. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, bust 4 reales, Charles III, 1783MI. Deeply toned AXF with a few natural flaws in and near rims, nice contrast overall." This type is listed for Peru 1772-89 and is quite scarce. The fineness was lowered from .903 to .896 in 1785. Assayer MI is recorded for 1780-87.
