Künker sale 294, lot 3595

This specimen was lot 3595 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,774 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. Dukat 1802, C. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. Harzgold. GOLD. RR Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Preussag Collection, Part I. Auktion London Coin Galleries/Künker 1, London 2015, Nr. 326. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, ducat of 1802, Clausthal mint, for the Harz mines. Extremely fine.)"

Various types of ducats were struck most years until 1831; the type shown here was issued 1802, 1815 and 1818 from gold mined in the Harz. The kingdom of Hannover was the old duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg prior to the Napoleonic invasions. It was separated from the British crown in 1837 and absorbed by Prussia in 1866.
