Goldberg sale 85, lot 3331
photo courtesy Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

This specimen was lot 3331 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "Israel. 50 Lirot, 1964. Weight 0.3933 ounce. 10th Anniversary - Bank of Israel. Cornucopia. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." This is the second issue of this denomination tho it is safe to say that no gold coin of Israel actually circulated. Massive influx of aid from the United States fueled inflation and coinage reforms in 1960, 1980 and 1985.

Recorded mintage: 5,975 uncirculated plus 1,502 proofs.

Specification: 13.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, 27 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-44.
