Ponterio sale 159, lot 9226

Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Zacatecas is common. This specimen was lot 9226 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $632.50. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Zacatecas. 50 Centavos, 1877-ZsS. Lightly toned. NGC MS-63.” This specimen has an interesting striking weakness over the "50" in "50 centavos"; there is a matching spot on the reverse.

Specification: 13.54 g, .903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 100,000.

Catalog reference: KM 407.8.
