This specimen was lot 4264 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €360 (about US$485 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, BAYERN, Ludwig III. 1913-1918. 3 Mark 1914. In US-Plastikholder der PCGS mit der Bewertung PR 65 CAMEO. Prachtexemplar. Polierte Platte. (unified silver coinage, kingdom of Bavaria, Louis III, 1913-18, three mark of 1914, in PCGS PR 65 CAMEO holder. Proof.)"
This type is somewhat scarce. Ludwig III succeeded his insane cousin Otto in 1913. This is the last three mark struck before the shortages of World War One ended the minting of silver. The bust is by Karl Goetz, who did many propaganda medals during World War One.
