Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 4099

This specimen was lot 4099 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1891-GaJS. NGC MS-62. Toned. Sharp details." The Guadalajara mint produced large quantities of eight reales 1825-95 and most later dates are readily available, including this one. Assayer JS is listed for 1885-95.

Recorded mintage: 1,507,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
