Jean Elsen sale 139, lot 893

This specimen was lot 894 in Jean Elsen sale 139 (Brussels, December 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR demi-franc, 1811U, Turin. Rare. Beau. (empire of France, Napoleon I, 1804-14, silver half franc of 1811, Turin mint. Rare, Fine.)"

This type was struck in France at numerous mints 1809-14 and a complete set comprises 64 dates and mintmarks.

Recorded mintage: 38,734[1], a rare date.

Specification: 2.5 g, .900 fine silver, plain edge, 18 mm diameter, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).
