Barcelona 1838 6 cuartos rev DC.jpg

This copper coin was issued from Barcelona for use there and in Catalonia. It was struck 1836-48 and accompanied by a copper three quartos. In the local currency, six quartos = 1/20 peso. This coin is not common but priced rather low in the SCWC. A rare variety exists with the denomination misspelled "6 CURA". The last local Catalan issue is a rare six quartos dated 1848, after which regular Spanish coinage was used.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: copper, 12.79-14.71 g, 31-33 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Cayón-16748, KM 128.
