Spain 1838-M DG real
This specimen was lot 421 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$924 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1838. Isabel II. Madrid. DG (Departamento de Grabado). 1 real. Pátina. Bellísima. Brillo original. Ex Áureo & Calicó Selección 2016, nº 390. Rara y más así. S/C. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, one real of 1838, Madrid mint, assayer's initials DG (department of engraving). Toned, exquisite, original luster, rare, uncirculated.)"
This rare pattern closely resembles the regular issue of 1837-49.
Recorded mintage: unknown but probably around 10.
