The specimen is an early date of a type struck at the Utrecht mint for the Netherlands 1849-74. Most of the dates are common; this one is slightly better. After the final issue of 1874, no 2½ gulden were issued until 1898. The .945 fine alloy seems to be unique to the Netherlands.
Recorded mintage: 5,008,210.
Specification: 25 g, .945 fine silver, .760 troy oz ASW, 38 mm diameter, legends "WILLEM III KONING DER NED. G.H.V.L." and "MUNT VAN HET KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN.1850.", edge lettered GOD * ZY * MET * ONS *, designed by J.P. Schouberg.
